What does "Skill Unavailable" mean?

Last updated: August 27, 2026

A skill becomes unavailable because your organisation replaced or removed it, because you are no longer part of the team it belongs to, or because your team's subscription is not active. The message on screen tells you which, and what you can still do.

Why this happens

Your organisation periodically updates the skills available to your team. When a skill is replaced (for example, with a newer or more relevant version), it is removed from the catalogue. If you had already started the old skill, it stays in your Active list with an "Unavailable" tag because the platform keeps your progress history, but the skill itself is no longer launchable.

You can also lose access because your team membership changed. If you are taken off a team, the skills that belonged to that team stop being launchable for you. In that case you will see Skill Access Changed rather than Skill Unavailable, explaining that you are no longer connected to the team the skill belongs to. If that looks wrong, ask your team administrator to add you back.

Which message you see

Skill Unavailable means the skill itself is no longer in your organisation's catalogue. Follow the steps below to clear it and pick up the replacement.

Skill Access Changed means you are no longer on the team the skill belongs to. Nothing has happened to the skill, so there is no replacement to look for. Speak to your team administrator about getting back on the team.

Skill Access Changed also appears when your team's subscription is not active. In that case you can still finish a skill you have already started: select Complete on the message. New skills, and editing shared skills, need your team administrator to restore access first.

What to do

If you saw Skill Unavailable, here is how to clear it and move to the replacement.

  1. Clear the unavailable skill from your Active list

    1. Open the skill in your Active list and mark it as complete. This removes it from your active view without deleting your history.

  2. Find the replacement skill

    1. Go to the skills library and look for the new skill your organisation has made available. If you are not sure which one is the replacement, your team lead or org admin can confirm.

  3. Launch the replacement skill

    1. Select the new skill and launch it. You can then begin engaging with it as normal.

  4. Select your team (only if you belong to more than one)

    1. If you are a member of multiple teams, you will be asked to choose which team to launch the skill into. Pick the team this skill relates to. If you only belong to one team, this step will not appear, and the skill launches automatically into that team.

If your team's subscription is not active

You keep what you have started. The message offers two choices:

  • Complete marks the skill as complete and keeps it in your history, with all your scores and sessions.

  • Close dismisses the message and leaves the skill as it is, so you can come back to it if access is restored.

Starting a new skill needs your team administrator to sort out the subscription. Speak to them rather than waiting for it to resolve on its own.
