Why does it say “You have this skill active already”?
Last updated: May 11, 2026
This message appears when you try to start a skill that is already active; either for yourself or for someone you’re assigning it to. It’s a safeguard to prevent duplicate skill sessions.
If you see this for yourself
You already have this skill in your Active Skills list. You cannot start the same skill twice at the same time.
Go to your Skills page and select Active from the filter to find it. Click View to continue practising.
If you want to start a fresh run of the same skill, first mark the current instance as Complete, then launch it again.
If you see this when assigning a skill to someone else (Admins and Owners)
The message will read “[Name] has this skill active already.” The person you’re assigning to already has this skill in their active list. Ovida blocks the duplicate to keep their data clean.
Ask the user to complete or remove their current instance of the skill before you assign it again. Once they do, you can proceed with the assignment.
Next step
To find and manage active skills, go to Skills and select Active from the status filter.
